How to Start Over With Fitness, Health & Mindset (Without the Guilt)

B-Fit Fitness | Jo Conroy | APR 13

There’s something about the idea of “starting over” that can feel heavy.

Like we’ve failed.
Like we should have done better.
Like we’re back at square one… again.

But what if starting over isn’t failure at all?

What if it’s actually where the real change begins?

I’ve been thinking about this a lot recently, especially after my conversation on the podcast with Nic Newlington-Barry, a mental health counsellor. We talked about the pressure we put on ourselves—the all-or-nothing mindset, the guilt, the constant feeling of needing to “get it right.”

And honestly… it hit home.

Because even as a coach, I’ve had moments where I’ve had to reset.
Where life has felt overwhelming.
Where routine has slipped.
Where motivation has gone.

And in those moments, it’s so easy to be hard on yourself.

But here’s the truth most people don’t talk about…

Starting over is part of the process.

Not once.
Not twice.
But over and over again.

Life changes.
Energy shifts.
Priorities move.

And instead of forcing yourself back into what used to work, sometimes you just need to begin again—gently, simply, and without pressure.

In the podcast, one thing really stood out…

We spoke about how important it is to meet yourself where you are.

Not where you think you should be.
Not where you were 6 months ago.
But where you are right now.

And that applies to everything—your fitness, your mindset, your wellbeing.

Because if you start from a place of kindness instead of criticism…
you’re far more likely to keep going.

So if you’re feeling like you’ve “fallen off track”…

I want you to hear this:

You haven’t failed.
You haven’t undone everything.
You don’t need to start from scratch.

You’re just starting from experience.

What starting over can look like (without overwhelm):

  • Going for a 10-minute walk instead of a full workout

  • Choosing one class this week instead of five

  • Focusing on how you feel, not how you look

  • Letting it be imperfect

Because it’s not about going all in…
It’s about coming back in a way that feels doable.

This is exactly why I do what I do

So many women I work with are juggling everything—family, work, stress, emotions—and fitness often ends up at the bottom of the list.

Not because they don’t care…
But because it feels like too much to restart.

That’s why everything I offer—whether it’s LiftStrong, YogaFlex, or even TribeFit—is designed to meet you in those “starting again” moments.

No pressure.
No judgement.
Just support.

If this resonates with you…

I really encourage you to listen to the podcast episode with Nic.

It’s an honest, down-to-earth conversation about mental health, pressure, and learning to be kinder to ourselves—something we all need reminding of.

And if you’re ready to start again…

Start small.
Start messy.
Start where you are.

But most importantly—just start.

If this speaks to you… you don’t need to figure it all out alone

Starting over doesn’t have to mean starting from scratch—and it definitely doesn’t have to feel overwhelming.
